A handmade 9ct yellow Gold Heart with red vitreous enamel that dangles delicately from a 9ct Spiga-style Gold chain.

Handmade by Sarah from her studio in  Cambridgeshire. 

Vitreous Enamel is the art of fusing glass to metal.  

(This is not to be confused with cold-cured or epoxy enamel.)

The enamel is ground and washed several times to rid of all impurities. It is then placed carefully using a quill and fine brush onto the pieces itself. The next stage is to fire in a kiln with temperatures around 800' C. After cooling, it may need repeated application of enamel and firing again. Once completed, excess enamel is ground off with fine stone and fired for the final time. Then the finishing and polishing stage completes the piece.
